DO-IT-YOURSELF QUESTIONS TO ASK AT THE START OF A NEW BUSINESS, CAREER OR JOB

MERGING PURPOSE AND PASSION in your personal growth journey can be a challenge. Obtaining purpose and passion is the goal and finding the balance is the victory.

The last couple of years proved to be strenuous on companies. Even when tough times happen, and things that we can control gets less and less, there are always some things we can have control over to make life easier and more meaningful.

“There is a place and opportunity to merge your purpose with what makes you tick, your passion.” Janine Do Cabo

Here are 5 easy questions to ask yourself at the start of a new business or career, because this year, YOU CAN BE IN CONTROL:

1. WILL YOU ACCEPT MEDIOCRITY OR STRIVE FOR GREATNESS?

What is it going to take from you to reach at least 3 personal goals set out by yourself this year?

There is a definite price to pay, time, long hours, money, relationships, etc.

What will be your cost? Maybe you are thinking of furthering your studies, moving up the corporate ladder, starting a new business or starting a family. There is a cost, and are you willing to pay for it?

Mediocrity is cheap. Greatness comes at a price, that price will be your reward.

2. IS IT WORTH THE RISK?

Is it worth the risk or cost to you? Only you can decide that. This is a simple yet profound answer that is about to draw the line on the sand between mediocrity and greatness.

Taking a well calculate risk is always worth it, it will:

R – Reveals who you really are
I –  Invest in yourself
S – Solve problems by an accumulation of new resources through the process
K – One of the Keys to growth is taking a risk.

“If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will have to settle for the ordinary.” Jim Rohn

3. DO YOU HAVE THE RIGHT RESOURCES TO REACH YOUR GOAL?

Resources are not always money, yes, money is a resource, but more often than other times, we need relationships, support, assets and different resources to reach our goals. Sometimes we need time, it has become one of our most valuable resources.

We are not as much money poor these days as what we are time-poor.
Define and make a list of what the resources are that you will need for your goal and dream, and then find out and explore how to obtain them.

4. HOW WILL YOU OBTAIN THE RESOURCES YOU NEED?

By now you know the following:

What you want to achieve

What the achievement will mean to you:
• How much is it worth to you
• What you will need to reach it

Start formulating a plan in order to get started. Make it easy, understandable and put it in a place you can see and read it often. Break it up in bite-sized goals or actions? and don’t try and achieve everything all at once. Make it fun, celebrate your wins, be true to yourself and trust the process.

The famous Bill Hogan wrote “How do you eat an elephant? – One bite at a time”

5. HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE YOU?

Goals are time-sensitive, in order for you to track it, you need to put a time limit to it. Time helps us to use less effort and minimize the risk. We score the biggest in the first 30% of the process.

By then you have already ruled out a lot of options what NOT to waste your time on and you can focus on the best option with 100% of your effort.

The only thing left for you to do now is to START.
